Statement of the National Council of South Azerbaijan Statehood Regarding the Activity of the Armenian Lobby in the U.S. Congress Against the Republic of Azerbaijan

A group of U.S. Congress members has sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This letter is primarily aimed at opposing Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

It seems that for the United States and European countries, the stability Azerbaijan seeks to achieve in the region, particularly in the South Caucasus, holds little real significance.

In this context, we can observe that Armenia is gradually moving toward losing its independence and sovereignty.

At this point, it is important to recall Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent speech in parliament, where he acknowledged that his country does not understand international relations.

Historically, Yerevan has been treated as a tool by various external powers. The events of the last 30 years vividly illustrate this.

Today, the Armenian lobby in the U.S. Congress has intensified its efforts. In 1992, under theinfluence of the Armenian lobby, the “Section 907” amendment to the “Freedom Support Act” wasadopted, targeting Azerbaijan. This dealt a significant moral and material blow to Azerbaijan, which was suffering from Armenian attacks and had its territories occupied.

Now, Azerbaijan has liberated its lands from occupation. It is one of the key advocates and guarantors of peace, cooperation, and security in the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan also plays a leading role in ensuring global energy security. Official Baku was the first to offer peace proposals and terms to the aggressor Armenia.

In such circumstances, Azerbaijan faces slander, and the State Department, along with Armenia’s supporters, disregards the progressive proposals put forward by Azerbaijan. Addressing the issue from the biased perspectives of the lobby and Armenian advocates threatens peace and prosperity in the region.

We hope that the U.S. Congress will prioritize American interests over those of the Armenian lobby and halt the baseless and ambitious attacks against Azerbaijan.
