South Azerbaijan Republic Party Condemns Iran’s Politically Motivated Campaign Against Azerbaijan

The South Azerbaijan Republic Party considers the Iranian regime’s ongoing provocation campaign against the Republic of Azerbaijan—launched under the pretext of a CNN report based solely on unnamed and anonymous sources, without any verifiable evidence—to be yet another failed political spectacle.

The campaign built around CNN’s report, which relied on anonymous sources and was published despite the official denial issued by the Republic of Azerbaijan, demonstrates that the Iranian authorities are willing to exploit even unverified allegations in pursuit of their political objectives.Although Azerbaijan’s official state position has been clearly and publicly stated, Iranian state-controlled media outlets and regime-affiliated circles continue to present these allegations as established facts in an effort to manufacture new tensions.

For three decades, the Iranian regime supported occupying Armenia politically, economically, and at various other levels; adopted a hostile stance toward Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity; facilitated the formation of terrorist and narcotics networks within our region; and pursued a systematic policy aimed at eroding and assimilating the national identity of Azerbaijani Turks.

Today, that same regime finds itself burdened by mounting regional failures and deepening internal crises. The revival of old and unfounded accusations once again demonstrates that the primary motive behind the campaign against the Republic of Azerbaijan is neither Azerbaijan–Israel relations nor regional cooperation.Rather, the root of this policy lies in the Iranian regime’s growing concern over the strengthening national liberation movement and emerging political will in South Azerbaijan.

The regime recognizes that the national movement in South Azerbaijan is gaining broader public support and increasing regional influence. The Iranian authorities, together with so-called opposition groups that share the same Pan-Iranist worldview, are deeply concerned about the impact that a stronger Azerbaijani state has on national and political developments in South Azerbaijan. At the same time, the smear campaigns directed against the Republic of Azerbaijan are intended to justify increased pressure on the national movement in South Azerbaijan, create grounds for new accusations against national activists, and pave the way for further restrictive measures.

Moreover, the regime seeks to conceal the decay and profound crisis within Iran’s state system, cover up the country’s worsening economic, social, and political problems, redirect growing public dissatisfaction, and divert attention away from the real challenges facing the country by manufacturing the image of an external enemy. The propaganda campaign against the Republic of Azerbaijan is an integral part of this strategy.

The unfounded allegations made by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated networks regarding Azerbaijan–Israel cooperation are intended to obscure Iran’s failures in regional policy, its significant setbacks in recent confrontations, the weakening of its geopolitical position, and the broader decline of its foreign policy influence.Through this approach, the regime seeks to mobilize its remaining supporters at home and distract public opinion from the country’s actual failures and losses.

The escalation of hostile rhetoric against the Republic of Azerbaijan stems largely from the new political realities that emerged in the region following the 44-Day Patriotic War and from Iran’s diminishing influence in the South Caucasus. In this context, Azerbaijan–Israel relations serve merely as a convenient pretext.

The South Azerbaijan Republic Party declares that a policy built upon fear, hatred, and hostility has already suffered a historic failure. The strengthening national political will and national awakening in South Azerbaijan cannot be halted by propaganda, intimidation, or repression. What truly concerns Tehran’s chauvinistic regime today is not the independent Republic of Azerbaijan, but rather the emergence of national political consciousness in South Azerbaijan, our people’s determination to shape their own future, and the ongoing process of national revival.

The campaigns directed against the Republic of Azerbaijan are, in fact, components of a broader strategy aimed at weakening this national awakening.

The future of the region will not be determined by the plans of Pan-Persianist or Pan-Iranist circles, but by the free will and the right to self-determination of the nations living under oppression in Iran. The desire for national freedom in South Azerbaijan cannot be suppressed through propaganda, pressure, or political coercion.

It is now an irreversible historical and political process. The future of the people of South Azerbaijan will not be decided by the security institutions of Tehran, but by the will of the people themselves. We will continue our struggle with determination for the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, and national statehood.

There is death, but there is no turning back.”— S. C. PishevariSouth Azerbaijan Republic Party10 June 2026
